Guidelines for submission

Information for authors

The list of potential experts (medievalists studying history, philosophy, theology, law, Latin, music, etc.) may evolve and grow. Before the preparation of a new issue, these mediaevalists are reached by e-mail to ask them to contribute.
Any potential author interested to be on the mailing-list needs to register prior to submitting or may send a message to the editors: Spicae@univ-lorraine.fr.

Guidelines for submission

The Editorial board discusses any article proposal and may ask for advice some members of the Advisory board. Any article submitted is discussed by the Editorial board and by selected members of the Advisory board (depending on the subject of the submission).

Submitted articles can be sent as Microsoft Word-files or OpenOffice files to Spicae@univ-lorraine.fr.

Three referees at least read any article submitted, two of them being members of the Editorial board, one being either a specialist of the related topic or being member of the Advisory board.

Any author of an accepted article may be asked to revise his/her “manuscript” within a month, taking into account the remarks done by the referees. Only one major revision (new version) is accepted.
Abstract – Index: Any article is submitted with a list of (ancient) authors and works cited (in the Latin form if possible), with a list of the manuscripts mentioned, and with an English and French abstract.

See Manuscript preparation details below.

Once the article accepted to be published, the author is asked to sign an authorization to distribute the article on the Web.

Punctuation marks

The semicolon (;) and the colon (:) must be preceded by an unbreakable space.

Citation practice for secondary works

All the elements of a bibliographical entry must be separated by a comma (,).
Publishers should be omitted.
The place of publication should be given in the spelling of the original country (Torino, Kobnhavn, London, Leuven not Turin, Copenhague, Londres, Louvain).
Arabic numerals are to be used for volume, part (subdivision in a series), and sections numbers.
Roman numerasl are retained when the original work uses them for page numbers.

Nota bene : If there are many Publishing editors, use (eds.) in English titles, (Ă©d.) in French titles.

Article in a Journal

First name or Initial, LAST NAME, « Title of the article », in Title of the Journal, number of the volume in arabic figures, number of the part if needed, Date, p. x.

Subsequent references

Ibidem, op. cit, art. cit. should not be used.

For successive references to the same work within a single note or if the work is cited in the immediately preceding note (when only one work is cited in the preceding note) :

  • Ibid. replaces the complete reference of the book.
  • Ibid., p. x refers a specific page in the same book;
  • Ibid., p. x-xy refers to several pages in the same book.

If the title was cited abode, but not in the just preceding note, use short title (but do not abbreviate journal titles):
AUTHOR, Part of the title..., p. x.

The short title repeats a significant part of the work’s title, followed by punctuation break...
The name of the author, if cited again within the same note, may be replaced by ID. (small capitals).

  • ex.

Typography should remain similar to the prior reference :

  • Italics and punctuation break (...) for books.

  • Roman type and quotation marks «
» for article’s titles. Ex. : G. DE BOOM, « Voyage et couronnement de Charles Quint Ă  Bologne » / G. DE BOOM, « Voyage et couronnement
 ».

If the prior reference is a short title, it remains de same, without punctuation break. Ex : Les hirondelles ; « Charles Quint ».
In a monograph, each chapter is considered as an article. Therefore, the references should be thoroughly cited the first time in each chapter. For subsequent references in the same chapter, use short title.
